Posted By chris beddoes Could anybody help?
I look after a site that hires in a 35t / 40t dump truck for a week or two at a time possibley four time a year, depending on site operations the dump truck would either be operated by site staff or the operator would come as a package. My question is i whish to put together a daily brake testing program in order to establish that the truck is safe to use or not. Any advice would be of help Thank you in advance

Posted By Robert K Lewis You will need to ensure that you have a sufficiently large clear area to do this as these are not small vehicles. In my times in quarries we would set up to posts on the main drag to the tip and ask the drivers to do an emergency stop each day, before entering the tip for the first time that day. The stop speed was set at 15mph and initial braking was to happen at the first pole. The final stop point had to be before pole 2. The final phase was to immediately report all failures and the quarry management then witnessed the re-check of the vehicle braking and withdrew all failures for maintenance. We also had a handbrake ramp which was to be used for checking the brake x1 per shift.
It was a dismissal offence not to undertake all the daily checks of vehicles, including brakes.
