Posted By ppurcell1975 Hi all, just wondering if you have come across this scenario, while working at height in a clean room, up to 5 m, harnesses are not allowed to be used. This is due to the fibres possibly contaminating the area etc. Has anybody come across this and if so what they did to do/use to control the risk to working at height?

Posted By Larry Shannon may be cGMP clean / CER environmental, not sterile. We constantly have this issue, barring de-sanitising, and re sanitising. unusual for work to be going on while process is in place. We working towards have a specific tool set, and ladders in CER areas to avoid need for sanitising. interested to chat with you re solutions ( We are a API plant) cheers

Posted By MickN Try aluminium scaffolding, the light stuff. It can be cleaned easily and is safer that harnesses. You can buy it or hire depending on costs. You'll probably need outriggers to get your 5m though. Mick

Posted By Dave Merchant Obvious solution - wear the harness under your cleanroom suit, and cover the lanyard tails in plastic tubing, cellophane etc. You'll need a 2" slit in the suit to get the D-ring through, but that can be covered with a bit of tape if need be. Been done many times for similar reasons.

Posted By Ron Hunter How do your people get up there in the first place? (and I suppose, just to be nosy, what are they doing when they get there?)

Posted By Ian Futcher In our clean areas (used for medical device manufacture) we don't have heights as high as yours, but we do occasionally need to get up to 2.75m We erect a temporary plastic tent around the work area and use normal equipment inside it. All equipment is transported to the work area inside suitable wrapping to prevent it contaminating the clean area. Ian
