Posted By DAVID FOTHERINGHAM Is the towing point fitted at the rear of some forklift trucks designed to be used for towing trailers etc or is it there purely to recover the vehicle if it breaks down? Your views would be appreciated.

Posted By Ian Futcher I can remember, on my site many years ago before I got involved in all this safety stuff, seeing a gas powered counterbalance (3tonne?) truck, towing a train of small "flat-bed" trolleys on my site piled with several pallets-ful of sacked-up finished chemical product. Although I'm not a FT Trainer, I would have no problem, per se, as long as (a) the driver was properly trained for this aspect of the task, (b) the load towed is within the truck's capability, and (c) the speed of travel was reduced (dynamic risk assessment). Posted By William Sweeting I am having the same problem, so I asked our HSE inspector. He said to involve the manufacturer, I did and they were quite clear in that the FLT towing pin is only for recovery of the truck. I looked in the manual and it does confirm this. We no longer tow with FLT's.
