Posted By dbh Hi All, During a recent health and safety audit on my construction site, I was advised and instructed to remove the eye wash station facility. This is a standard eye wash kit with all products inside, intact and within date. The auditor mentioned and quoted section B Appendix 3 of the GE 700 and stated that as long as I have fresh running water on site I should not have to have a eye wash station available for use. I personally do not agree with the advice and as our system is on a marking basis I have been marked down for providing more than the minimum first aid requirement. Could anyone give any additional advice.

Posted By A Campbell Should this not be based on a risk assessment for first aid facilities?

Posted By dbh Sorry, The point was that the auditor has told me they are not suitable for site use, if we have clean running water to site. If it came to a risk assessment I would supply eye wash facilities

Posted By A Campbell dbh..
the reference is from a citb handbook that i do not have access to as not in construction now. But.....
I would argue the point that if someone required flushing of thier eyes i would be looking at somthing that is close to the work area and not have to go down levels of building to find a sink/tap!
If you are using the small ampoules of water that fit inside the box, they are limited to what effect they may have due to the ammount of water you need. The 3-500ml (cannot remeber the exact ammount) would proberly be more beneficial ammount to use.
As before... this can be evaluated on a risk assessment and SSOW for the type of environmen, work equipment used etc.

Posted By Sally Have you ever tried to wash anyones eye out in a sink anyway. I'd far rather have bottles of solution that provide a gentle jet that I can squirt round the eye with the head tipped backwards than trying to get someone under a tap.

Posted By graeme12345 beware of these types of persons, they generally give answers like this because they are incompetent, blinkered and you cannot reason with them.
remember who thought of the CSCS?
