My employer has given me the opportunity to find a suitable training course in order that I can carry out a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, following the principles of PAS 79 and good Fire Safety Management.
I feel the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Fire Risk Management Certificate a little too much as I am currently studying my NEBOSH National Diploma. With that said, a truly worthwhile and recognised training course is needed. I would like to complete a training course that is accredited to a recognised body that IOSH also recognise.
Any suggestions to which course provider or accreditations I should be on the look out for?

The British Safety Council do a one day fire risk assessment course which is a level 2 course as defined in the national qualifications framework.
A workplace assessment has to be completed after attending the course and sent it for verification by their awarding body who are nationally recognised.
Not sure where you are based in the country but they do run them nationwide.

Try and contact a Pete Pinney his e-mail address is ppinney@fireservicecollege.ac.uk. This was a very interesting couse and showed what the fire service's ideas on the process are.

Posted By DP Wayne - I did the NEBOSH one and I did not think it was that good. Having said that I was on an early intake so it may well have developed. I also have done he FPA one week residential at Warwick University and it was an excellent course. I have a colleague who has undertaken his fire risk assessment training with Vulcan Fire and he says they were also very good. http://www.vulcan-fire.co.uk/Vulcan are accredited to the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (of which I am a member) another excellent Institute.

I did the Fire Protection Association course - which is based at the National Fire Service college. It was 2.5 days and was pretty intense - I'd say you learn everything during the course that you need to pass the exam, but if you're going to want to do much assessing outside ordinary or familiar environments, you'd want to study the handouts supplied at some length after the course.
The exam is the last half day and comprises a practical FRA, including (of course) writing the report.
I thought the admin arrangements (booking info etc) left a bit to be desired, but the course itself was second to none.
