We have been asked show our LTIF and TRCF per million man hours for the past three years.

We are well versed in calculating rates per 100,000 and 200,000 man hours, but these are construction/offshore industry stats. We work around 100,000 hrs pa and don't really see any relevance in scaling our figures up.

I presume LTIF is Lost Time Injury Frequency and TRCF is Total Recordable Case Rate. Please enlighten me.

I would be grateful if someone could tell me how these formulas are calculated and are these published anywhere?

Calculating frequencies per million hours is the European practice but LTIF would normally be recorded after only one lost day. Not three.

TRIF ? What is "recordable" ? And we are not talking RIDDOR here. Normally, in Europe, ANY injury occuring at the workplace, however caused, is put down automatically to the employer's responsibility. You can appeal, but a priori it's the employer's fault.

You need some clarification from whoever is asking for the 10x6 stats. With what are they comparing ?

(comparison of like-with-like being the only point of statistics)

Thanks
I have asked them the question and I am awaiting a response.

This is for a supplier questionnaire for UK offshore organisation.

TRC's are usually the total of LTI's plus Medical Treatment plus Restricted Work Cases.

The million hours is a pain for small companies, if we have a single incident the multiplier gives a frequency of about 8!!!

Most Oil & Gas sector try to deal with contractors below a frequency of 4.

haggis, you're right but definitions of LTI, MTC and RWC vary.

Thanks Ciaran
I wish I had seen this document earlier, it explains everything.

I'll add these formulas to the others that we already calculate!

Thanks again.
