Posted By Mart In the New year i will be carrying out noise assessments on our construction sites. At present i am at a loss of how to present the details. Has someone carried out a similar task who would be happy to send me a worked example to take a look at? Thanking you, Mart

Posted By RBW100 Have a look at this document from the HSE: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/noiseassessments.pdf It contains details of the sections that should be in a legally compliant Noise assessment. Sounds (excuse the pun!)like that's just what you need. Rob

Posted By Ali I haven't done one for construction sites, but (as an Advisor) I would do the following: 1. construct a plan of the site 2. on the plan draw the locations of the noisiest plant & equipment (from your initial Leq measurements TWA)and number them 3. against each one write down the average noise levels (say from 3 separate readings) 4. on those with NL equal to or greater than 85dBA indicate HPZ (hearing protection zones) 5. construct the noise assessment using the HSE 5 steps to risk assessment 6. controls (see HSE Hierarchy)- consider reduction at source, engineering controls, proofing, resiting of plant, reduction of exposure times, amending purchasing policy, training, ppe, health surveillance....not necessarily in this order. 7. your report should include an action plan showing controls taken and timescales This should suffice for a framework that you can build on. Of course, there is more than one way to skin a cat (excuse animal lovers)and I'm there may be other methods, but it is better than a blank sheet !
