Posted By Cathal Duffy Hi there fellow fellows! I am a Construction H&S Officer in Eire and the company I work for have just acquired an M&E job in UK. I have been told to prepare a Health & Safety Plan. In Eire this is a document prepared by the Project Supervisor for Construction Stage who compiles it after the Project Supervisor Design Process compiles the Preliminary Health and Safety Plan. From the Construction Stage Health and Safety Plan I (Sub-Contractor) compiles our Safety Statement (Safety Policy-UK) and Risk assessment. So after all that ranting....Is this Builder just looking for a Safety Policy?? (Safety Statement) or is there a Health & Safety Plan to be compiled by me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Posted By Richard Altoft The Principal Contractor under CDM2007 is required to produce a Construction Phase Health and safety plan and the client should not allow work to commence until that has been down. All employers in UK with more than 4 employees must produce a written H&S Policy to certain criteria but that is not at all the same as the CPH&SPlan If you need support over here please contact me directly. Posted By Mark Fearon Cathal, I've worked in both the North & South of Ireland and have found the H&S pre start paperwork in both to be very similar. If you are a subcontractor the main contractor will be looking for your company H&S policy (Safety Statement)including site management structure & responsibilities, company insurance details, company risk assessments (site specific), method statements for the works that will be carried out (also site specific & include emergency procedures), COSHH/ MSDS information on chemicals or substances that you will use, certification of thorough examination for plant and equipment in line with the uk regs ie. LOLER & PUWER. Employee training certification ie safepass, scaff or plant tickets etc. If you stick to the management procedures you use in the South you shouldn't go too far wrong in the UK. Remember to have the correct titles of the Regs in your documents before you submit them to the main contractor. I think that should be enough to get you in the front gate anyway! If there is anything missing I'm sure the main contractor will let you know. Mark.

Posted By Crim Hi Cathal, I've done exactly the same thing but in reverse! One of my regular clients is a shop fitter that works in the Irish Republic occasionally and I've had to research to get the documents right for Ireland. I found that the HSA is a little more strict than our HSE so if you keep to your normal standards you should not have any problems. The info required is almost exactly the same. Some of our sites demand CSCS cards for everyone on site, I believe you have a different but similar system over there, you may need to get everyone CSCS passed. The comment about ensuring the names are correct is relevant as titles are different in our CDM Regs. Good luck.

Posted By Cathal Duffy Thanks for that Crim, We have the Construction SafePass Card which is more of a general construction safety awareness programme as opposed to the trade specific CSCS scheme in the UK - I think! I think all our men have the CSCS as they are UK based anyways. Cheers for all your help. CD
