Posted By Denn Can anyone suggest a cheap solution to the carrying of boxes of paper, etc up two flights of stairs. Currently we track down a willing 'strapping man' in the office, but realise that this is not good practice!
We have quotes in for 'stairclimbers', but wondered if there was anything else out there as good, but a bit cheaper...
Thanks in advance

Posted By Melanie Fellows No magic answer sorry, but it did remind me of the time a few years ago (at a previous company), the sales director complained that he didn't like to keep seeing me carrying boxes and boxes of paper upstairs - his solution? - to ask my boss to tell me to use the back staircase instead!!! What a gent!!!
Seriously though - can you get your supplier to deliver the paper to where you store it? (that's a solution I used at my last company - they even put it on the shelf for me).

Posted By Renown II Hi Denn
Google stair climbing trolleys. Lots of options here, and these should be ideal for this task, and are certainly a lot cheaper than stair climbers, and will give the 'strapping man' a rest. Hope this helps

Posted By Kevin Brown We had problems with employees carrying boxes of A4 printer paper by the nylon straps, with a couple suffering cuts. We got around it by having bulk deliveries made to various central parts of the building by the supplier. Once there the nylon straps were taken off ( to remove temptation) and the paper separated into individually wrapped reams of 500 sheets. The packaging went to recycling, and feeding photocopiers and printers was done on a little and often basis. There was no need to find a strapping lad, or buy special handling equipment, just about anyone can carry a ream of paper without undue risk. It also meant the strapping and unwanted packaging was kept in one or two locations and not spread out all over the place

Posted By Ron Hunter Stop your delivery people leaving the goods on the ground floor, and have them DELIVER things to where you want them DELIVERED to! If your suppliers won't oblige, find another supplier!

Posted By AMelrose Was looking into automated stairclimbers myself a few months ago as had a member of staff with weakness in hand who felt she wouldn't be able to pull a standard 3 wheel stairclimber.
Done a search on the internet and found that for most of the automated ones, the battery pack would probably weigh more than the item to be carried!! [battery pack = 20kg, trolley = 6kg, files to be lifted = 4-5kg!].
As she would also have to lift it out of the car, gave up on that idea!
I'd second getting the delivery company to actually deliver the boxes to the second floor rather than dump them at the main entrance. If not, smaller loads and more frequent journeys I'm afraid...
