Posted By bereznikov Afternoon everybody, As most companies do I guess, we have external window cleaners come onto the site to clean all the windows of the office block. Some of these windows are located internally facing out onto the manufacturing areas, and require the use of a ladder to access them. The substitute long-handled hose/brush system is not appropriate. My question is, should we be issuing a Work at heights PTW for each visit? Has anyone got any experience of this? Is there any case law that documents any such incidents/accidents arising from this work? Kind thanks in advance for any replies, bereznikov

Posted By bereznikov In this particular area there are no traffic hazards, chemical hazards, or uneven surfaces, its purely a ladder on a flat floor accessing the window approx 4/5metres off the ground. There are no reasonably practicable alternative methods for the cleaning, as there are only 4 window panes that require cleaning, currently taking a combined time of about 5 minutes for them to be cleaned.

Posted By CFT I would guess these are irregularly cleaned; can you not have them done from a MEWP when you are perhaps having other scheduled maintenance completed that requires such equipment? CFT

Posted By stephen d clarke Hi, Is there some reason why you can't use long-handled hose/brush system, I've seen them used up to the 3rd floor and done at the weekends if there are space issues. Steve
