Hello All.
Has any one ever heard of franchising H&S Consultancy work via a large H&S Consultancy Company?
It works in the way that a qualified H&S Consultant utilises the insurance, office support, stationary, advertising, website, email address, corporate branding and products/ templates from a leading consultancy company.
The Consultant raises an invoice direct to the Client that the H&S Consultancy Company gives you and then they invoice you for a percentage of the total invoice value.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?
Thanks

I've heard of it, but why pay the consultancy part of your fees. Why not just work contract/freelance - then you are not tied to one consultancy for work. What happens if they go belly up and they are your only source of income - you may be contracted to only take work via the frnachise.
If freelance you still have the option of taking work on an 'associate' basis from other consultancies and generating your own contacts and clients.
Risk management principles apply - don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Franchising / partnering has worked in almost all types of industry-profession so why not in H&S
But have your wits about you all the time and take note of some of the good advice already given in this posting

Defo Sounds interesting and would possibly work..
but remember, you would have to carry out some THOROUGH investigation into the contractors you take on.. after all, if they aren't 100% competent.. then you could see a massive insurance cost rise if bad advice is provided that leads to a successful law suit...

I had a similar situation a few years ago when I first went self employed.
It's a Consultancy that has a lot of pharmacy's, vets - that type of small business on the books and gave me North Wales and part North West England. The work involved installation followed by annual visits to the clients, I submitted invoice and expense sheet and they paid end of the following month by cheque.
The system worked very well indeed until I had too much work so left them.
They are still active and probable doing very well.
It wasn't a percentage but a standard fee, small for the installation but high for the annual visit.

Arran,
In all respect:
Your post back then was your opinion and therefore not gospel among the world of franchising...
If Safety110 is raising the question again, then surely he feels that his question was not answered... therefore no real point bringing up an old post.
As i stated - no disrespect meant, just trying to encourage others to keep posting on this.

have you personally been involved in a similar franchise?
your 1st post was misleading, it basically said, "why are you posting again I have answered".. i am merely pointing out that just because you feel you have answered safety110s question does not mean that you have...
as i said, no disrespect.. so lets not hijack safety110s post.

Safe System,
If you back to your original question, whilst the title uses the franchising word, the question (to me) describes a model of a large H&S practice outsourcing their work during busy times. Outsourcing is quite normal practice, however with franchising the financial relationship (as franchisee)would be directly with the client through a bottom up approach passing a percentage of your fee to the franchise. As franchisee you would also be responsible for your own PI insurance.
To give you a handle on my business knowledge, I have worked with clients who have franchised businesses also undertaken business study at degree level.
