can anybody tell me what the ratio is for men on site and the amount of toilets needed and should the principle contractor supply more if needed or is it down to my company (the other toilets would be on site and every contractor would use them)

thanks in advance

Under the CDM regs it is the Principal Contractors responsibility to provide an adequate number of toilets for the number of people on site (including women). From my understanding depending upon the type of toilets on site will determine the ratio ie a proper toilet 'cabin / block' with flushable toilets I believe is 1 for every 10 under MHSWR however I believe that this ratio changes for 'portaloos' I have heard mixed opinions that this can be as low as 1 for every 7 or 9 people BUT please bear in mind that I have only heard this via word of mouth and haven't seen any written documentation to substantiate this. Maybe someone on the forum could clarify this a bit better.

The CDM Regs say "suitable & sufficient". Guidance from this comes from the Workplace (HSW) Regs 1992, which in turn comes from the previous OSRP Act 1963. I understand this is:
1-15 men 1 WC + 1 Urinal
16-30 men 2 1
31-45 2 2 etc.
It's different for mixed use. By that I mean men & women (not number one's and two's !). Check out the above Regs for more detail.
