Posted By David Matthew Could anyone comment on whether they do provide increased visual recognition? I note that the streetworks ACoP doesn't mention them. Regards David

Posted By FAH Very odd post David.
Could you provide a little more background to the question to better focus the inevitable landslide of advice on complying with a situation that may not be relevant to your situation?

Posted By David Matthew High viz vests and jackets normally have silver coloured bib and brace. I had a request yesterday for hi viz with orange braces as 'it's a legal requirement'. Having checked further it would appear that it might be considered best practice by some highways authorities and at least one well known PPE supplier claims that red braces provide increased visual recognition for those working on the public highway. Both type conform to EN471.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows that they do make a difference. Regards David

Posted By Bob Youel seen both types / used both types and they are pretty much the same - the only thing is that a decision needs to be made as to which types are to be used - we have gone for the standard silver on yellow on the highways as its whats the public etc are used to noting that all things provided should conform to the codes and standards

Posted By stephen d clarke Hi, AS I understand it the standard to be met is EN471 and High Vis clothing is divided into 3 classes depending on the level of conspicuity required to protect the wearer. Class 3 offers highest level of conspicuity and includes jackets and overalls. Each garment within its classification must contain the appropriate minimum quantity of background and retro-reflective materials, class 3 background material 0.8m2 retro-reflective material not less than 50mm wide and area 0.2m2. I don't think the colour is specified its the reflective properties that are important. Stevemore
