Posted By Spiderman Do photoluminescent fire warning signs release radioactive substances when burnt in a fire? What is the substance that makes the signs 'glow' in the dark? Fire and rescue services would likely attempt a rescue from a building where human life is at risk, however would these signs significantly increase the risk when burnt?

Posted By FAH Hi Spiderman photoluminescent signs generally do not release radiation other than light. It is extremely difficult to actually burn them as they are normally designed to be self-extinguishing. For definitive information, may I suggest that you contact Jalite or look at their web-site [ www.jalite.com]. They're very responsive &, time permitting, always happy to talk through any concerns. Posted By Flic There are at least two types of luminescent sign. The plastic stick-on ones are not radioactive - see: http://www.exit-signs.co...minescent-exit-sign.html The tritium signs, which are permanently illuminated, are radioactive, see: http://www.exit-signs.com/tritium-exit-signs.html Flic

Posted By steven bentham Spiderman I am sure the Fireservice will cope in dealing with the potential risks from burning 'fire exit signs', [they tend to understand the products of combustion better than the rest of us].
