All or Anyone,
Maybe a Sparks Forum would answer my question, I don't know. Does anyone know the requirement or if there is a requirement to bury outdoor electric cables. If so marking and depth?
The cables are to run across a closed and restored landfill carrying upto 400v.
I would assume yes to avoid shock, machines tracking over them and to avoid tampering/cable theft but is it required by law? Are the IEE Regs (BS 7671) related to this as I couldnt find it.
Regards,
Mark

Hi,
I think it could be the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regs you need. As far as I know cables are to be buried (or otherwise protected) to avoid any damage from whatever use is likely to be made of the land above.

As above. It really dependes on the lenghth of run and the traffic both pedestrian and vehicular using the area.Where vehicles have to cross the cable ramps should be employed to provide protection to the cable. I would expect a minimum of SWA cable to be used.It is perfectly acceptable to surface run electrical cables on a temporary basis as long as the correct precautions are observed. Risk assess and signage.
If the cables are buried, it should be to one metre and lined with sand. Identification tape should also be laid and the route recorded.
