Hi Guys

A very quick one for the guys and gals in the facilities sector are Air Handling Units classed as work equipment and would they fall under Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I would say yes, as I understand it the scope of work equipment is extremely wide - everything from a hammer to fork lift, from a ladder to a noise enclosure. But livestock, substances, private cars and structural items e.g. walls, stairs, roof, fences are not classed as work equipent under PUWER.

“Work equipment” in the regulations is:-

any machinery, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation for use at work (whether exclusively or not)

Air Handling units are machinery
