Posted By D H Boiled eggs banned from a school because of an allergy - when are we going to start to manage risks instead of banning things. The school still allows the children to take egg sannies in their packed lunch however. http://www.eveningexpres....uk/Article.aspx/1143774

Posted By Scotty Hmm - it does seem a bit uneven-handed. Ban Easter eggs in case of allergies, but keep serving them at school? Strange one.....
I have seen someone in anaphylactic shock due to an egg allergy. It's not a pleasant condition to have and does need managed, but this seems to be a case of the risk averse rather than risk aware.
And so it goes..........

Posted By Ian Axford-Hawkes My lad took a jar of Nutella to his school breakfast club. He may as well have produced a knife judging by the reaction of the school!! It was immediately confiscated, locked away in the office and a note was sent home asking us to collect it forthwith.
On asking, we were told that the school had not been informed of any child having a nut allergy.
He takes Nutella sandwiches in his packed lunch occasionally without comment.

Posted By Scotty I think the most depressing thing is that people are terrified that they will have their bottoms sued off if something goes wrong, which in turn manifests itself in the risk averse nature of these decisions, often made blindly, without any real thought process and with no regard to the actual management of the situation.
My, that's a glum thought for a Tueday isn't? I think it might be home-time soon......
