Posted By Tabs Nothing like genralisation, but here goes: Whoever the Court stipulates.
There are a couple of avenues open to recover costs after a case has closed and new evidence presents, but you need a lawyer, not a safety forum :-)

Posted By John Richards It also depends upon whether the organisation/person making the [supposedly] false claims have any assets. You cannot get blood out of a stone.

Posted By SteveD-M The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 protects workers who 'blow the whistle' about wrongdoing. It applies where a worker has a reasonable belief that their disclosure tends to show one or more offences or breaches of legislation or coverup.
The Act supports measures which protect whistle blowers from any form of victimisation.
That said if it is a criminal case and there was no conviction...
S16 of the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985 provides that in the event of a summons or indictment not proceeding with or an acquittal or discharge at committal the court may make an order for the defendant's costs to be paid out.
I need more details to give a more direct answer but I'm guessing that this was a civil matter not criminal.
