Having read only the 'last' four messages, and getting bored at 'that', do I have to trawl through the 'whole' thread to find out what 'BCM' is?

I believe BCM means Business Continuity management, at least that's what it means in my region.

In my case, the swine flu affects me alot. AS I'm in charge of HSSE, BCM naturally falls on my shoulder and I feel that it should be.

Penfold,
In response to your orginal thread...yes, we are a manufacturing company and we have taken steps in response to the Swine Flu outbreak and confirmed cases in the UK as the issue poses a real risk to our business continuity.
We have instructed all facilities located in the areas with reported cases of Swine Flu to prepare/update their pandemic plan within their BCP.
In particular, all employees were reminded of appropriate prevention activities (leaflets) and that they should stay home if they develop any potentially communicable respiratory illness or flu like symptoms.
Travel into and from Mexico facility has also been suspended in line with Governmental advice.
The situation is being monitored closely at present before any further action is taken.

Am I the only one who thinks that when people talk health and safety I talk health wise, about the effects of dust, noise etc. surely Flu, TB, communicable diseases etc. are best dealt with by medical practitioners these people have trained to be doctors for years and this is were there expertise lies.
I understand noise and it effects, dusts, and chemicals and the effects although not all.
Sometimes we try to wear all hats for fear of saying 'I'm not competent', I don't have the answers etc.
I do work with other departments for contingency planning purposes but don't pretend to have all the answers and I do not fear saying, speak to a medical practitioner as I don't know.
