Posted By samanthah Hi We have 130 staff on 24/7 shift pattern 12 hours a day in a manufacturing environment. In the factory there is only 6 toilets 2 ladies, 2 men's and 2 disabled that are used by all staff as we at present have no disabled staff. Is there a limit to the amount of amenities that we should provide ?( The male / female dived is about even). Can you point me in the right direction for advice.

Posted By Stuart Hufton Regulations 20 and 21 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations. It comes from the old Factories Act and is quite prescriptive for minimum standards. You need to read it yourself to see exactly how your situation fits in.

Posted By clairel For mixed sex workforce the requirements are based on the maximum number of workforce at any one time (not in total):
1-5 (people) = 1 toilet 6-25 = 2 toilets 26-50 = 3 toilets 51-75 = 4 toilets 76-100 = 5 toilets
Then 1 additonal toilet per extra 25 people (or fraction of 25).
Where there are seperate sanitary conveniencs for men and women the calculation should be made for each group (ie, 5 for men, 5 for women).
There should also be one handbasin per toilet (...that doesn't happen in my experience).
