Hi All,

could you tell me if a number of risk assessments can cover a task?

Say it is stocking a shelf could a generic manual handling risk assessment cover this task?

I hope I have made it clear but I don't know who else to ask.

Many thanks

Robert,

Risk assessment is a process, rather an end product and should not be confused with control measures. Control measures may be written down, but not necessarily so, and are exercised by the competent worker. Generic controls have their place when applied to like situations. However if you need to specify the controls rather than rely solely on the competence and experience of the individual to exercise as he/she carries out their work, then it is best to ensure that they are particular to the whole work operation, taking into consideration the requirements of the unit, etc.

Regards, Philip

You have virtually answered your own question. Most RAs tend to be tasked based, which allows for a review of the hazards involved in the task. Task based RAs are also easier to follow with a logical sequence.
