Is there anybody out there with suitable comments with regards to upper body ballistics for arbourists

When facilitating with regards to risk assessment it is quite obvious that upper body protection is needed yet its very rare that it is worn / provided

Read INDG317 - http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf

Chainsaw jackets are a consideration, but not mandatory as they have significant drawbacks (heat stress, restricted movement, etc.) when operating in the canopy, and don't provide complete protection. It's up to the arborist and their supervisor if a c/s jacket is justified, given the nature of the work and the level of experience of the operator. Some do, some don't. If you've ever worn one you'll see the problem.

All-round c/s trousers are a different matter, and every arborist should wear them.
