Posted By Brian M. Jones Can anyone recommend a company that supplies traffic management, cone laying vehicles. I would also appreciate it, if you are aware of any specification/standard for such a vehicle. Thanks

Posted By Edward H If by "cone laying vehicles" you mean a fully or semi-automated vehicle that drives along laying out cones behind it by mechanical means. Then as far as I am aware there are no such vehicles commercially available yet. A number of advanced prototypes have been trialled and developed by various companies supported by some of the larger traffic management contractors; but to date I don't think any have gone commercial. The Transport Research Laboratory [TRL], on behalf of the Highways Agency, developed a performance spec. that such vehicles would have to meet if they were to be used on the motorway network. Contact TRL for more info. However, if you mean a vehicle that has been adapted to allow an operative to manually place or collect cones from a moving vehicle. Then most big TM companies use these and several companies have them available for hire. Acklea are one, but try googling "traffic management installation vehicle hire" for others.

Posted By RP At this time there is no equipment available that will do this. some have tried it but as stated above ran into difficulties, including equipment failure. Lux Traffic Controls (now A-Plant Lux) developed one, think its still parked up gathering dust. So, the only equipment available at this moment is of the man/cone variety, easy to maintain, cheaper to run. The biggest problem facing this work is avoiding the need for employees to cross live lanes to place signs and cones...
