Posted By CS Chen We are looking to implement a warehouse racking system inspection program. I wonder if anyone would be willing to share any SOPs or inspection checklists as well as any experiences you may have had with the implementation of such a program.

Posted By Stewart Hi CS The risks that can occur when a racking system is unmanaged can include the collapse of a structure (locally or completely), the dislodgement of goods from the racking, excessive damage to stock and equipment and enforcement by local authorities. The main areas to assess when carrying out a risk assessment or inspection of pallet racking should include: An inspection of all damaged components, the recording and assessment of such damage and a management system to prioritise off-loading and repair. Checks to see if the structure has been assembled correctly, erected correctly and missing no components. Checks to ensure that suitable and sufficient load notices have been fitted and that the data is correct. Checks to ensure that the stock types and sizes used are compatible with the racking system. Industry guidance is provided by an organisation called the Storage Equipment Manufactures Association SEMA and there are various publications that they provide covering all aspects of storage equipment use and inspection. Some less technical guidance is also provided in HSE guidance document HSG 76. I work for a firm called Storage Equipment Safety Service SESS, a business specialising in warehouse and storage safety. We can be found easily on Google so please feel free to call us if you would like any further information.
