Posted By steve g Hi could anyone advise on a good strategy for an employee starting their career in health and safety within the care industy. this employee already has nvq3 in social care and was a senior carer and now taking on a new role as health and safety officer based in the weston super mare (somerset) area we will be going iosh and nebosh route later when some experience has been attained. is there an apprenticeship route that would be applicable to help her or any other routes anyone would recomend thanks as always steve g

Posted By Mike DF I think you will be lucky to any kind of apprenticeship at the moment (Suralan excluded). Given that the lady has experience of working in the field are there any opportunities to let her work alongside experienced staff? No more than one week at a time per person until she is happy to try things on her own.

Posted By Bob Youel I advise that your company retain the services of a competent person until you become competent; this would be a type of apprenticeship [this will take a long time and consists of more than passing academic tests! and I do not know of another method of gaining competence / serving your time best of luck
