Posted By GG Dear All, The employee was driving a company vehicle on the way of office from the plant. Company vehicle was struck from behind by another third party vehicle driven in the same direction in traffic. Because of this impact, vehicle run off the road and subsequently overturned. Does any of you have an idea if this accident recordable. I am not clear about this accident is recordable because our company vehicle struck by another vehicle.

Posted By Homer I would say yes as he was actually working at the time. The third party bit is irrelevant still an accident at work. Insurance calim could be interesting if any injuries (hopefully not).

Posted By GG Hi stevan thanks for your quick reply. Ok I agree quite with you it is reportable. But I am not sure it is recordable and we should include into our statistics.

Posted By Bob Y I am a bit confused with the wording at the start of the post, but, if they were at work at the time of the accident then yes it is 'recordable' - as has been said Police Insurance Accident book

Posted By water67. As has been said you would not RIDDOR report this regardless of how serious the employee was injured as it is recorded in a different method. However we would still keep an internal record of the incident but would not count it in our annual stats. Cheers

Posted By Coshh Assessor GG, I think you need to say what you mean by recordable, as this is interpreted differently by many as you can see from the responses. For example, do you mean recordable under OSHA rules?

Posted By tb GG Road vehicle accidents are not RIDDOR Reportable in the UK, but since it was an accident and someone was injured I would personnally record it in my accident statistics. Hope it helps Tony

Posted By thespudman No. RTC's are covered by the Police as the enforcing agency rather that the HSE and as such they are not covered undor RIDDOR... UNLESS the accident involves roadworks

Posted By Jay Joshi For accidents, the use of the terms "recordable" and "reportable" without context is meaningless as it can means different things to different people. It is good practice to use there terms in detailed context.

Posted By SteveD-M If I read this right...this is about avoidable or unavoidable?.. If the driver of the the company vehicle answers NO to any of the following questions this would be avoidable. Signal well in advance of change in direction? Turn from the proper lane? Be alert for other vehicles turning? Avoid overtaking and passing in the junction? Refrain from jumping the green signal? Follow precautionary steps required when approaching red or amber signal? Pull out slowly at a blind corner, prepared to stop if necessary Look to rear and front for approaching traffic immediately before starting to pull out? Look back, rather than depend on the rear view mirror? Signal before pulling from the kerb? Start out only when their action would not require traffic to change its speed or direction to avoid them? Continue to glance back as he/she pulled out? There isn't enough detail to give a better response... Have a good day:))
