Can anyone explain what qualifications a CDM coordinator requires in order for them to be competent to carry out their duties, Ive noticed that a lot of CDM training courses are not accredited
Thanks

I don't like to say this, but I understand there are no formal qualifications required to undertake the work of a CDM-C. Of course, it would help. The professional qualification or membership I often see quoted is MaPS, but this is not the same as, say, having a postgraduate diploma in OSH plus a first degree, which is what I have. Maybe a CDM-C can tell you what MaPS is ? Legally, they must be competent & adequately resourced - CDM 2007.

Check out the requirements in the ACoP - Appendix 4. Section 5 of the table gives suggested qualifications.
It's not all about formal quals though - it's about competency - and demonstrating that competency!!

Hello
The ACoP for "Managing health and safety in construction" - Appendix 4 & 5, stipulates the guidance in assessing the competence of a CDM Coordinator - in terms of qualifications, experience etc.
I hope this helps
Regards,
Adrian

Thanks for Spudman that. I would also add that a CDM-C is not legally required to have MaPS and I don't know how they are regulated. Eg I have CMIOSH and I must follow CPD requirements, which may be examined from time to time. Many other professions follow the same ruling. Unfortunately I also hold Chartered MCIEH and they are even more stringent !

As some of the other replies indicate you should refer to the CDM2007 ACOP and Appendix 4.
The point about being a registered member of the Association for Project Safety RMaPS is that to be registered you must have passed their exam which will test your knowledge of construction health and safety matters and your understanding of the CDM2007 Regulations.
In addition the APS has a number of regional branches and the south central branch of the Association for Project Safety of which I am a committee member runs regular CPD lectures and discussion groups on CDM matters to improve our members standards and competence levels.

...that's fine if you are registered, but if Registration is not required many CDM-C's will choose not to be registred as indeed ours is not. The key, I suppose, is making Registration a pre-requisite to practice.
