Hi,
Does anyone out there know of any standards of training for yard shunters or dock spotters. I am trying to formulate a training course for non HGV drivers to be able to safely couple and un-couple trailers in the yard using a purpose built shunter and transport the trailers to and fro around the yard. As an ex HGV driver we were expected to have the skill and knowledge without further formal training, which I believe is why I can't find any special criteria for a course.

Firstly yes if you have an LGV licence you will have completed coupling and uncoupling as part of the test...However..

With vehicle technology moving on it is important to make sure the guys are trained with the vehicles and trailers they will be using.

There are courses available both 'yard shunters' etc. However if they are using tugs the training will be different.

I have sent you some links..
