Whilst watching the BBC news on Sunday morning an article was on about the upkeep of Big Ben. They showed footage from a Blue Peter, must have been mid, late 80's with Peter Duncan climbing down from the top of the tower, un restrained onto a wooden plank suspended by a piece of rope so as he could clean the clock face.

Just an indicator on how much H + S has evolved in the last 20 or so years.

Obviously the risk assessment was not 'one that they prepared earlier'

John Noakes wouldn't have even used a plank of wood.

Didn't Richard Hannay dangle from that as well?

Hannay made a terrible mess of the cleaning job - far too hasty and the wrong cloths. Trust me, always give the cleaning tasks to Duncan.
