Hi all,
see below for the text of an email I got from HSEdirect today:
Following the decision, announced by the HSE Board today (3rd June), to make the priced publications of HSE freely available via its website from 1st September 2009, LexisNexis confirms the HSE Direct service will be available to subscribers up until close on 31st December 2009.
You will receive a pro-rata invoice for the renewal of your subscription and, on renewal you will continue to receive the full benefits of the service until 31st December 2009
After this date the HSE priced publications will only be available on their website www.hse.gov.uk. The health and safety legislation element of the service will be available to purchase from LexisNexis.

This is GREAT news. The idea that Guidance documents that interpret the law that Employers have to comply with being FREE is excelelnt and should reduce the burden of compliance.
Also, hopefully, it will mean that moer people will use HSE publications to improve their H&S standards.
Does anyone know, however, which publicationa re likely to be free and which will be priced (and available from the HSE website)?
I would expect that ACoPs and Guidance to be free and Research Papers, Case Studies, etc. to be priced.
Further details would be appreciated.
Marty

It is my understanding that hard copies will continue to be priced, but there will be free downloads of electronic versions of most of the ACoPs & guidance from the HSE website.
Electronic versions of Research Reports have been available free for several years, and so have been the MDHS series.
The announcement was expected on the day of the HSE Strategy Launch, i.e.today

Thats good news - I was going to purchase several ACOPS from the HSE Website over the next month or so.
I will hold on now and see what the HSE make available in September.
