Posted By clairel Have I missed the thread on this one? Just seen that the HSE have changed their website. It's awful!!! Wonder how much that rubbish cost in external consultants...and how many new inspctors that would have paid for! What do others think?

Posted By safetyamateur Disagree, clairel. Looks like a proper site now. Probably did cost a fortune, though.

Posted By clairel But it looks so bleak - lots of grey and black and square boxes. And so much crammed onto the main page.

Posted By John Fraser Clairel I also disagree - just off the website. To me it seems a bit clearer to view. Hoping to see free ACOPS / Guidance Notes on its website soon though. John

Posted By Ali The HSE did advertise the fact weeks beforehand via their website and even emails. As to the site, it might just be that because it's different and you are so used to the old one that you don't like it. Stick with it and it might grow on you !

Posted By Tabs Oh dear ... I used it and didn't really notice the difference. Maybe it is more obvious to people who care (not wanting to sound offish, just that I had no affinity with that site - I would hope to notice such a change on these pages). Give it a couple of weeks and you will have forgotten the old design probably.

Posted By June-bug The search function sucks! Otherwise, it looks fine to me; I too didn't really notice the difference even though i thought something was not quite the same, just didn't know what.

Posted By Heather Collins Tabs - try refreshing your browser when on the HSE homepage to clear your cached old version and you'll see the change! My immediate reaction is "what the heck is all that clutter" but I think as has been said above it's just because I'm so used to the old site. If I were coming to it fresh I think I would like it. Hopefully it will grow on me.

Posted By Jay Joshi I think it is better signposted, has and has consistency. Obviously, as announced by HSE in the past few weeks, we will see the changes over a period of time until they replace all the old pages with the nnew ones. Refer to:- http://www.hse.gov.uk/news/2009/newwebsite.htm It also states that, "Every week until March 2010 - we’ll launch at least one new ‘micro-site’ for a specific industry or health and safety topic".

Posted By Pete48 I think it is much better, much less imperial in style and once I have found my way around I expect it to be both easier to use and with the promised improvements to raise the bar even further. I asked a few mates who think H&S is something that you don't admit to in public. They had never visited the site before so I asked them to find me a risk assessment for a hairdresser; anything about safety in the footwear industry and the contact details for their local HSE office. Easy to find, intuitive mapping with tabs etc, didn't like the footwear page as much (is it an old page 2 of them asked!) Overall thought it was a useful resource if you ever actually want to admit you need to know, not littered with technical jargon on entry and easy to follow if you are not an anorak. Keep it up HSE, it suits me and my mates just fine. One of whom later admitted that he actually spent an hour on the site looking around and was amazed at how much info is presented so clearly--but he did that in private of course:)

Posted By Brian Hagyard claire not just you i hate it too! But then again i hated the site that as just gone when it replaced the old site (the one with the drop down tool box if you remember it) but it grew on me - so maybe we are just "stick in the mud's" (I wont say old as too polite to ask a lady her age). Posted By Nick Patience No Claire - you are not alone. I don't like it either. But.....I didn't like the Radio 4 website when it was changed but now I am used to it. Think of the old website as being a pair of very comfortable shoes that have come to the end of their useful life.......now you have to go through the process of breaking in your new shiny shoes.

Posted By John Richards Still touting the same old stuff though: "Our job is to prevent death, injury and ill-health to those at work and those affected by work activities" Exactly when are they going to do that then ? And with who ? Apart from that, the opening pages are better but the stuff inside is the same old tosh.

Posted By Tabs "Tabs - try refreshing your browser when on the HSE homepage to clear your cached old version and you'll see the change!" Oh yes ... I can certainly see the difference LOL. Good to know I'm not losing my mind, :-)> Now I have seen it (why doesn't it force a refresh?) I like it a lot better, I have been able in 20 seconds to see the main things that I would refer people to the site for. As for what I need, I will look later.

Posted By Jay Joshi John, The HSE Strategy launched yesterday after extensive consultation has answers to your questions. http://www.hse.gov.uk/strategy/strategy09.pdf I am not going to repeat everything that is in the strategy, but a couple of extracts:- "The strong co-regulator partnership between HSE and local authorities is integral to this strategy and to its delivery – but regulators cannot do it alone. We need everyone to play their part in delivering improved higher standards of performance in health and safety because it is delivery of this strategy that will count." "We will measure and report our progress, but we should be clear that we will be measuring the success of our collective efforts not just the role of the regulator" I do not agree it is the same old tosh, because as far as I am concerned, it was never was tosh as described by you. I hope you are aware that wef September 2009, most of the priced publications will also be available via the HSE website.

Posted By Swis Definitely better site to navigate now, however, it’s going through new look syndrome at the moment. Hopefully, problems will settle down once everything in place.
