If a general member of the public is diagnosed with swine flu is the GP required to report this as a notifiable disease?

I know there is a list of the things that the GP has to report, but I cannot recall where to find it.

NB: I am NOT looking for Schedule 3 to RIDDOR that details work related issues; I am looking at this from from the public health angle.

Thank you in anticipation.

Not on the list but I expect they have been asked to notify their local pct or other agency

I think they are, in line with other notifiable communicable diseases to the health protection agency.

Have a look at the health protection agency website.

Notifiable disease come under the Public Health Act (Part V I think) but have to admit can't remember the lateset version with list of diseases. HPA website is probably easier to get the details from. Flu isn't notifiable good question on whether Swine Flu is or isn't though. Sorry just realised I haven't actually answered your question!

I think there are probably internationally agreed protocols.
