Posted By Stuff4blokes John, if you buy solely on price you may find that you get less than you expect. Whilst I know that training can be expensive, it's the quality that's important.

Posted By Felicity Its worth asking around - although i've now chosen to go down the PGc rather than Nebosh Diploma route, when I asked around earlier this year one or two people recomended going through colleges such as Stafford or Bristol which were more reasonably priced -
I found my people at my local Iosh group meeting were very helpful with local course advice as many of them had recent experience of the local providers.

Posted By Phizzle By the title of the thread, i'm guessing the Nebosh Diploma in OSH...
John,
Try colleges / universities which are a lot cheaper than private institutions. I did mine at Bolton which cost less than £2K for evening classes.
That said, I do agree with the previous post that you need to make sure you are not substituting cost for quality.....
My advice is to ask for feedback about your chosen supplier on the Study support forum before you make that final choice.

Posted By Alexander Falconer Its worthwhile remembering you get what you pay for, having gone down the cheaper route with a well known training provider (who shall remain nameless for fear of breaching AUG's), I cannot fault the supply & technical content of their materials, however their tutorial support did leave a lot to be desired.
Sometimes going cheap is not always the best way forward, it may also be worthwhile contacting the relevant business support/national training authorities to establish whether training grants & support are available to assist you financially.

Posted By Adams777 I get extremely annoyed when discussing the cost of training. If you are employed then surely it is in the interest of your firm to train you to the highest standard possible and to pay for it.
If you are not employed then paying to get trained is very expensive and it begs the question how many good potential H&S folk are lost to the industry.
H&S is required by the law so why shouldn't the Government pay?

Government pays for you all the way from nurseries to universities. It was your choice not to study then, so why moan now? Or should a minister follow you all the time with a bag full of money - as who knows when your highness decides to join a training institution.
Thanks god, it’s Friday.

Posted By Adams777 Swis - the government does not pay from the nursery to university - the tax payer does and have you forgotten about university fees. My son left with £16,000 worth and a credit card that would require an oil sheik to pay.
Who, anyway, at the age of 18 decides they want to do a H&S degree. Not many I bet. And where is the job experience gained from. Great theory no on the job experience.
And to finish this rant IOSH doesn't automatically recognise degrees as being valid as entry for membership.

Posted By mivys Hi John, in response to your actual question - i'm currently doing mine by e-learining, got it for ~£2500 - self-funded it myself also, so i understand where you are coming from... it's a hard way of doing it, but i'm getting through it so far! Any course is only as good as the person undertaking it IMHO. Drop me a mail if you need more info

Posted By Lilian McCartney Have you thought about trying for a grant? I was recently quite surpirsed when looking for one for a friend about what was available from Local Authority.
Even if not unemployed there are grants out there but sometimes difficult to find.
sorry if you've already been down this route, hope this is of some help Lilian

Posted By saty Hi I have just completed the Diploma, employer paid, but after talking to the tutors and students I was amazed at how much of a discount could be had by just phoning up and saying you was self funding. My course was £4600, but there were students there who had upto 20% discounted... Always worth asking, whats the worse they can say...No.

Posted By Alex.wilkes 5 grand! You are lucky mate. I have just paid 7600 for BSC Diploma! Although in the Middle East so costs are significantly more. By what I have been told though that is about the going rate for a decent provider.

Posted By Mike DF The current UK BSC rates are (for the five week version) around £5500 inc one year's corporate membership. That membership includes 100 level one exams and all the teaching material.
I am starting in July but have already delivered some level one courses across the company.
I will add feedback at the end of July and will be able to compare the teaching with the CHSS / Connaught certificate
