Hi All,
Just wondered if there were any Scouting H&S Co-ordinators out there in IOSH-Land?
I'm a CMIOSH H&S Manager and a Cub Scout Leader and have just been asked if I would be interested in taking up the voluntary post of County Safety Co-ordinator for Avon Scouts.
More than likely to take up the offer for number of reasons including looking good on one's CV and of course having some direct input into the Health, Safety & Welfare of our county's young people.
Feel free to email me off line or respond to this thread, it would be great to share experiences and best practice.
Yours in Scouting,
James

I was asked to do a fire risk assessment for a scout hut (unpaid).
Several things were noted, such as propane cylinders stored inside with no vents. electrial switch cupboard with no door or lock. Accumilation of jumble sale items stored adjacent to fire exits. double fire door only had one pushbar with the other door bolted. I could go on.
This assessment and recommended remedial action was ignored based on costs. Lets hope there is never a fire. I will not be doing this again.
Get an absoulute commitment from them to act on your recommendations, or leave well alone.
By the way, it was reported to the head scout of the district and I never heard back...
