I wonder if anyone can help. I work on a site where the wearing of safety glasses is mandatory. In certain areas of the Plant there is a risk of safety glasses fogging up due to the hot, steamy environments the Operators work in. We have tried anti-fog glasses, differing types of glasses, anti-fog wipes etc and nothing has worked so far. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how this problem can be tackled?
Thanks in advance
Mark

It is not uncommon problem. I always state that if PPE provides more danger than protection then it should be removed. Obviously this only applies to certain equipment such as eye protection. However, this does not give people cart blanche to discard their PPE when it suits. A tricky problem and not sure that there is a definitive answer.

How about increasing the ventilation to reduce the relative humidity?

We had this problem a few years ago in the Paper Industry where an integral part of the process was a hot, steamy atmosphere. We ended up using an anti fog spray that was aimed at motorcyclists for their helmets.

Mark,
Motorcycle visor cleaner/antifog works but check with the manufacturer that it is compatible.
Using the wrong cleaner can lift the antifog coating on many goggles/LEP, particularly if it has alcohol in it.
Using tissues rather than the recommended cleaning cloths also causes a problem as they are made from wood pulp and scratch the antifog coating, reducing its effectiveness.

Talk to your supplier. In my experience ARCO (whom I have no connection with) are good at suggesting PPE solutions. Hey it might not be cheap, but it may improve the situation.

I agree with the above comment.
Both Sperian and Bolle reps were really helpful with trials and suggestions and I even ended up with free sunnies :)

Please could you email me details of the anti fog spray you use?
