Good replies from IOSH. Will anyone take any notice, or even publish our replies ?
Remember the mountain worn away by a sparrow passing once every thousand years and wiping it's beak on the highest point ? Persistent, that bird.
We still have a good bit to go.
One point which could be addressed : when A school bans something then it is often reported that "XYZ is now banned at school" with the implication that "school" is being used as a collective noun, (I watch Countdown, too) perhaps with later attribution to a particular school or set of governors, but it is the plural that sticks.
Per ardua.

Judith Hackett was on the BBC this morning attempting to rebuff the bonkers 'school bans...' stories. She did a reasonable job, but like you say, still a long way to go to change public perception.
