hi
my team on site have been asked to pull our elv (extra low voltage) cables on the same tray as HV 11000v live cables.
can anyone advise on the necessary safety precautions as i am extremely apprehensive about my team working next to these powerful cables

You need to give a few more details - but my gut reaction, having worked on the railways close to the 11Kv power, is that you shouldn't do it

There may be a requirement for the extra low voltage cables to be insulated to the higher voltage levels.

There is a good possibility of inductive connection between the low voltage and high voltage systems.

The 11KV would usually be armour and screened, the ELV cables may need additional screening.
In my experience this request is fairly unusual but not unheard of.
If work goes ahead and the ELV cables need to be tied, use an appropriate tie gun (no knives or sharps around the cables.
Ideally the ELV should be on a sub-tray next to, above or below the 11KV.
Hope this helps.

Hi
cheers for the response.
to answer some questions - their is no technical reason why these cables can not run in the same tray. Purley form a safety point of view i am concerned about the staff pulling the ELV cables when the 11000kv are live.
i am pushing the main contractor to supply a separate tray but i need a valid reason.
FYI - the HV cables can not be switched off during installation.
