Hi
Can anyone provide some guidance relating to the transport of low volume Gas Cylinders (eg: 15Kg Propane, Butane) and Fuels (10 litre Diesel, Petrol) in small vans?
I am aware that Gases are Class 1 and Fuels will be Class 3 but I don't know if there are any maximum volumes that can be carried.
The ADR and the new CDR are such a headache and practical guidance seems to be glaringly absent.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

First of all if your carrying Propane UN 1978 and Butane 1011 there are no exceptions on quantities therefore regulations apply, you should employ a DGSA , sorry but at the moment i am busy and cannot give you a full rundown

Very briefly you do show that you need the assistance of a DGSA - gases are not Class 1 but Class 2!!

Sorry Colin - my bad - that was a typo but thanks for the constructive reply anyway.
Upon further reading I think that the operations will be exempt where:
"the carriage undertaken by enterprises which is ancillary to their main activity, such as
deliveries to or returns from building or civil engineering sites, or in relation to
surveying, repairs and maintenance, in quantities of not more than 450 litres"
This is not to say that they wouldn't be transported in a safe manner taking leak precautions, etc.
Still - any additional comments appreciated (just to make sure Im n the right track)

There used to be an exemption for vehicles under 3.5 t however not anymore. For the products you mentioned they should fall under transport category 2 so you should be able to carry 333kg, you would need awareness training in what you are carrying, and a two kg fire extinguisher. Not a full answer but should help with your problem.
