I am currently in a situation where the main contractor is insisting that we provide weekly safety checks as well as the daily ones that we do now. They have suspended the use of scissor lifts until further notice. I am of the impression that only daily checks and six monthly inspections are required. Your thoughts please.

I've read an awful lot of publications and guidance on MEWP's recently.
I also cannot find any reference requiring to weekly checks in addition to daily ones, including the research report unless the flood in info washed over me and I missed it.

Try again
Go to page 55 of the document refered to in my previous post and under the para entitled Routine Inspection reference is made to weekly inspections.

As I said, the flood of info!
Following IPAF training for our operators, best practice was established, daily checks are documented and would supercede the need for a weekly check

Gents,
Page 55 says 'Daily VISUAL checks' and weekly written checks. Now if thats what best practice says then surely daily written checks that are provided is surely bettering what the guidance states !

If the daily reports are as indepth as weekly ones then there shouldn't be a problem however the level of depth will have to be agreed with the PC.

Thanks for the response guys. I now rephrase the question - does anyone conduct daily and weekly checks if so in what format?

Before we all get too 'bogged down' with the publication being referred to, without stating the obvious, it is a research document, not guidance etc.
Could I suggest Construction Information Sheet 58 http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/cis58.pdf and under "Maintenance"

Phil, great minds think alike, how about that - we both submitted similar answers at the same time?
