Posted By Andy Hemsworth Can anyone advise me on the requirements of a C3 controlled radiation contamination area or point me in the right direction. We are quoting some work in a C3 area and have classified workers but I'm not sure of the requirements for C3. Cheers

Posted By John Donaldson I believe I am correct in saying C1, C2, C3, and C4 controlled areas are unique to the Nuclear Sector I would suggest you have a word the HSE Nuclear Directorate if you have not already done so. Also you would need to consult with a RPA

Posted By Kevin Drew Andy, A C3 contamination controlled area is one that has a significant airborne contamination hazard as well as a surface contamination hazard. The actual levels will depend on the organisation and the location that you are dealing with. Most organisations are reluctant to allow non-classified persons to enter C3 areas for all but the most trivial of tasks due to the potential to receive an internal dose. Hope this helps. Kevin

Posted By Kevin Drew Sorry, I didn't read the question properly. Typically, entrants to C3 areas will wear RPE (full face respirators) plus PPE (coveralls, overshoes, gloves, etc) but this will depend on organisation and location. Kevin
