Posted By Jason Cox A colleague has asked me to help prepare an interactive construction safety session for primary / middle school kids to warn them of dangers of construction sites. Naturally I'm very keen to get involved but could anyone point me in the right direction for appropriate materials (literature, leaflets, fun goodies etc) to use in the presentation Kind regards Coxy

Posted By Ron Hunter There is a fair chunk of the newish IOSH Managing Safely Course dealing with a Construction Site topic, complete with a cartoon animation sequence and an interactive board game, which looks to me to be ideally pitched for that age Group.

Posted By Pete48 ROSPA have a section on safety for children, I think it includes some booklets aimed at teachers about lessons for building site safety, might be useful as it will be in a format for teaching kids at that age.

Posted By G. McC-L We visited two schools last week, using the CSCS Ivor Goodsite presentation, slightly modified to include relevant details of the project we are working on, i.e. their new school. The key is to remember the age group and use the presentation as a aide memoir rather than sticking ot it rigidly, talk to the teachers they can give you an idea of the attention span of the age group your dealing with. I did persuade out project manager to dress up as "Ivor Goodsite" hiring the suit from CSCS, but remember bigger kids don't believe in Santa Claus so are not overly impressed by a cartoon character, except as a possible target. Overall good fun!

Posted By John Fraser Jason You could also purchase a dvd on child safety on construction sites made by the HSE and use it as part of your presentation to the kids. I think it costs about £25.00 minus P & P I delivered a few of these presentations to some schools a couple of years back, and it was quite an experience ! It mostly had the desired effect. John
