Posted By Andrew Kelleher Hi Could anyone provide an example DSEAR risk assessment on a hazardous waste treatment facility/transfer station. (facility accepts bulk solvents, which are stored in vessels/IBC's containing low flash point materials). Many thanks Andy

Posted By Phillip HSE website has a wealth of info. You need to -define the materials you are handling - carry out a hazardous area classification (example tables at the back of BS 60079-10)& assess if identified hazardous areas can be eliminated or reduced. - identify fire risks - think of the VICE principle - identify explosion risks - make sure suitable and sufficient control measures are in place - make sure suitable safety management systems are in place. Hop this helps

Posted By FAH Hi Andrew. Given that this is a waste processing plant, your post is intriguing to say the least! I note that you now have a 2nd post relating to PPE on this forum. Perhaps you should get your in-house safety adviser[s] involved on this? Frank Hallett

Posted By GeoffB4 I can see why we upset contributors on this forum. If you don't have a useful answer Frank, in the spirit the question is asked, why bother?

Posted By FAH Geoff - thank you for your observation regarding my response! I didn't intend it to be unhelpful - rather the opposite. Frank Hallett

Posted By A Campbell I'm inclined to agree with Frank on this one... Although there is no detail as to the nature of hazardous waste.... if looking at assessing risks within the scope of DSEAR I would be advising on specialist assistance, especially with regards to compiling a risk assessment suitable for such category!
