Heard about the fire at a recycling facilty in Midlands this morning and VERY concerned to here that there was a large quantity of 'recycled asbestos' on site...
Was this journalistic license or have I missed something - always understood asbestos couldn't be recycled?

As ever with reporters they got it wrong! You cannot recycle Asbestos. It's been an awful long time since I trusted anything in a newspaper and you quite rightly picked that boner up too!

I heard a report on the radio this morning Radio 2 to be exact, they had a fire brigade spokes person stating there was asbestos involved in the fire. She mentioned asbestos as the reason for evacuation.

Any ACMs awaiting final disposal should be in a covered skip. I concede that the likes of asbestos cement will eventually "explode" under intense heat but the presence of ACMs either on-site or as part of the fabric of any existing structures is hardly likely to have been cause for evac. or exclusion zone. More likely to be gas cylinders - many stray LPG, Acetylene and other pressurised cylinders end of at such centres awaiting pick-up by the cylinder owners.
