Is it usual to put automatic fire detection in offices that lead on to a protected means of escape?
The offices have fire doors, but not with vision panels, however, occupants when in the offices can hear the fire alarms that are in the corridors?

It's all about providing sufficient time to escape
The rationale of providing detection in rooms leading on to escape routes is to detect fires in those rooms BEFORE they spread & affect that escape route.
If the detectors only operate when the smoke is in the corridor, the escape route may already be approaching impassable.

All depends on your fire risk assessment. From the description you may have a Cat L5 or L4 system.

The corrdidors have detection, but not the offices off the corridors (means of escape).
30 minute fire resistant walls/doors are in place, as are manual call points, so if I fire was to start in a room the occupant can evacuate and activate the call point whilst evacuating.

Buzz, if you have a room within a room i.e. if in one of the offices directly off the protected escape corridor has a sub-office then detection is one way (not the only way) of satisfying the need of ensuring that early warning is provided for the occupants of that inner room.
