Hi all,
can anyone direct me to a supplier of IS calculators. I am after a basic desktop one rather than the scientific type that may attract "magpies".

Could you expand more on the situation and type of atmosphere? Zone 0, 1, 2 etc
Why not use a photo electric celled powered calculator AND heat seal it, inside a clear polythene bag using a heat sealing machine.
No batteries and the ex atmosphere can't get to the calculator.
Check the bag before entry for holes etc

Its a zone 1 area - chemical manufacturing plant with reactors and pipe work containing flammable solvent.

All,
After some digging about and assessing the risks I have plumped for the photo electric cell driven type of calculator. They contain virtually no energy (less than a digital watch) and offer little or no risk in a zone 2 area.

All depends on the type of on/off switch provided: Although the majority of battery and photovoltaic calculators are classed as PEP 2 devices any product with a power on-off switch with contacts that directly interrupt battery current is not acceptable for PEP 2 because the switch may cause an ignition-capable arc.
