Posted By Andy Kite We currently use a hand vibration log book for each maintenance operative, we are a general maintenance department, most operatives rarely use hand tools for any length of time, The daily limit is 400 points per person, some only hit 10 points in a week. Does anyone have a similar log book in operation, also is it a requirement??

Posted By Ron Hunter I would support the use of these records/logs for only as long as is required to confirm the findings of your respective Risk Assessments. Depending on the nature of the work (sporadic, cyclic, production line etc.) these records might need to be collated over a period of weeks or months. Six months worth should be more than enough for anyone. In that respect they should be retained securely as they will form part of your R/A "evidence". This rationale holds good so long as there is no significant (adverse) change in your work methods, tools used etc.

Posted By ian cowe Hi Andy We have a similar system in operation here for our Grounds staff (they use hand held powered equipment on a regular basis for extended periods of time, particularly during the summer months). We do have other staff who use hand held powered equipment but it is only for very short periods and infrequent use - we do not ask them to complete a log as their daily exposure is very low. One issue we have come across is actually obtaining accurate data with which to work out the points used for a particular item of equipment. We have had our hand held powered equipment tested by a specialist on a number of occasions in the past, the readings obtained were often much higher than those provided by the manufacturer. I will e-mail a copy of our hand arm vibration procedures. regards Ian
