I have tried searching the forums to no avail.
What are the HSE, "Best practise" guidelines on working in trenches/excavations.
There used to be a document called CIS 8 but this appears to have been withdrawn by the HSE.
All help would be much appreciated.

There's an HSE Guidance Book called "Be Safe and Shore".

Go to the HSE website and enter CIS 8 into the search box which will open up a list one of which is a discussion forum on one of the HSE web communities which tells you where the document can be found. THe legislation quoted is out of date.
