Posted By Descarte The Society for the Preservation of the English Language -http://www.spellorg.com/ ? Only joking. It would depend on your industry or field of expertise as there are several environmental bodies (IEMA), occupational hygiene (BOHS), chemical engineering (IChemE) and even ones as specific as noise (IOA). However most would require specialist qualifications in addition to your Diploma, but it depends on the level of membership your are hoping to achieve. The other question to ask would be, what benefit would you get of joining more organisations above those you have already? Des

Posted By peter gannaway Edward, the only question I would ask is why join so many? Get into the one that meets your needs, usually IOSH, and save the cash, I am CMIOSH MSc and have been cancelling memberships in other organisation this year based on cost and benefit. At one time I could have had 7 lots of letters after my name, people don't automatically link letters to ability. Peter

Posted By bluesail461 Hi Edward, I echo comments above, go for IOSH. Then those that may be job or sector specific, eg speak to APS if you are a CDM Co-ordinator, APM if involved in projects, BOHS if involved in say monitoring. It really depends on your sector as although membership of IOSH demonstrates the basic grounding (and level of competency), if you want to get ahead you also need the sector-specific speciality. Keep in mind many letters does not necessarily mean having the ability to apply competence and may be off-putting to a cynical employer thinking about paying for renewals!! cheers jez
