Posted By SL Hi, Does anybody have experience of managing the diposal of sharps in creative arts and textile(such as needles and scalpels). My main concern is the collection of used sharps and their subsequent diposal. All the guidance I can find is concerned with clinical sharps and their disposal. What kind of vessel/bin is avaiable (if any) and should it need a licensed carrier/disposal company?

Posted By Juan Carlos Arias yes - as far as I know you need a licence carrier. they should be able to provide the collecting bins for you. it is normally the company who also supplies sanitary services

Posted By Ian Blenkharn Don't use a 'clinical' sharps box - it may be a practical solution to safe handling but will cost £££s in disposal. It will also mis-identify the waste stream as clinical, causing all sorts of problems, I assume that in reality you have a collection of scrap metal. Keep it safe in use and use something suitable for disposal, then send it off as scrap metal. You may even get money for it.
