Posted By Gary Malone A licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor, has in place a Generic Standard Procedures Document which details the companies procedures. I have updated this document to include a table of contents and project directory so within the file the first appendix that can be viewed is the Index with location of all documentation, the site project directory, following onto the companies standard procedures, along with various appendix's for:- Sections Include Induction Record. 1. Job Specific Plan of Work (Method Statement), Risk Assessments & Sketch Plans. 2. COSHH Assessments 3. Asbestos Survey Report 4. Company Asbestos Licence 5. ASB5 Notification 6. Company Insurances 7. Sepa Waste 8. Permits to work 9. Toolbox Talk records 10. Disconnection Certs 11. Site Documentation including. Training Certs for Operatives, Face Fits, Medicals, Daily Paperwork includes RPE Checksheets, DCU, Plant Equipment Inspections, Enclosure Inspections, Smoke Test's, Clearance Cert's, Inspections, WasteLines, Exposure Records, Fibre Assessment Forms, Analytical paperwork, bacground, personal monitoring, site visitor register etc. I am currently having a dissagreement with the asbestos manager of this company, my opinion is that this should be set up in this way, his opinion is that if we change any procedures within the Company Standard Procedures, that is issued to the hse on an annual basis or as and when this has been updated, due to the fact the project directory is updated on a site to site basis he believes technically as we are putting site specific information (E.G a Project Directory within the Company Standard Procedures)I would appreciate feedback as to how this would be viewed by others

Posted By Robert K Lewis My comment would be "Who is the client and who is the consultant?". It is the job of the good consultant to structure the thoughts and needs of their client. They should not be forcing a situation with which the client is uncomfortable. Bob

Posted By Robert K Lewis Then you now have the task of finding a compromise between your ideas and his. There are no right or wrong answers for these documents they are what suits the company and the way it operates. I am sure however none of the directors will go against their manager ultimately. Bob

Posted By gerry d This looks to me like an document availabilty and/ or presentation issue. The content is manadatory and shoud be in place anyway. The manager is right to say that the Company procedures are lodged annually with the relevant enforcement agencies (e.g HSE). These procedures should not be deviated from. However, in my experience, if a Client wishes to alter the layout or content of site/ project file this can be done. Having said that, the Company I work for has a standard format which is used throughout the UK and, to my knowledge, this satisfies all of our Clients. The format is frequently augmented with other relevant documents and information. Maybe you could have a look at HSG247 Chapter 3 for more information. Hope this helps.
